ANIRBAN MISHRA
Akara Contemporary
1995
Born and brought up in Medinipur, West Bengal, in 1995, Anirban Mishra completed his B. F. A. in Painting from The Indian College of Arts and Draftsmanship in 2017 and M. F. A. in Painting from S. N. School of Arts and Communication from the University of Hyderabad in 2019.
Anirban frequently travels across cities like a wanderer, capturing the poignancy of everyday life. The artist, who grew up in a tiny hamlet, has found it difficult to integrate into a bustling urban center. Anirban's practice has been discovering itself through ongoing negotiation, from being in awe of the city's enormity to finding his own space within it. His architectural cityscapes are largely devoid of people; the only things visible are a lone figure or a cat. Anirban's coffee-washed paintings, with their distinctly European color palette, beckon viewers to explore the subtleties of urban life, melancholy, and solitude.
The artist lives and works in Medinipur, West Bengal.
