SATHI GUIN
Akara Contemporary
1979
Sathi Guin describes her works as a
reflection of her dreams and emotions- they are neither metaphysical nor
symbolic, but purely experiential. Her monochromatic works are rich, complex,
and an epicenter of both the universe's truth, but also her reality. The
curves, arches, swirls, and webs of linear abstract forms explore the concept
of time and the stillness of the physical world around us. They are notations
of fragility and disregard experiences of everyday life. For Guin, the act of
performing live, time and again became synonymous with the process of making
art. She calls them the lines of her hand - illustrating her present, past, and
future. Using extra-fine brushwork, Guin works with watercolour and acrylic to
reveal a sense of harmony between the structured chaos within her art.
Currently based in Vadodara, Sathi Guin's
paintings help her explore her opinion of "self" in a world that
expects women to host multiple identities. She completed her B.V.A and M.V.A in
Painting from the Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata.
Sathi Guin is one of the contemporary
artists represented by Akara and her first solo exhibition with the gallery, ‘Portraits of Intimacy’ was hosted in
2022. She lives and works in Vadodara.
